Olympic Essay
The Winter Olympics have escalated a lot through many years. The winter Olympics have also grown in the people that compete within the sport and the sports included in the Olympics. The Olympics have grown and been liked more by people first because people are interested in the history of the winter Olympics, and second because many people are entertained by the new sports like the snowboarding half pipe.
First, the Olympics have grown a lot since they first started because people are interested in the history of the winter Olympics. To begin with, there are many sports in the winter Olympics. For example, skiing events include the Biathlon, combined downhill, cross country, downhill, freestyle aerials, moguls, giant slalom, etc (1). At first, all these sports were not included with the Olympics (1). Originally, the Olympics were short in duration. The first Olympics only lasted a week (1). Today, the Olympics go on for two or more weeks. Also, the first winter Olympics started 1924 in Chamonix, France. Again at that time they only consisted of a few sports (2). Next, the first winter Olympics had many nations but the whole world was not represented. In the first winter Olympics there were 16 nations competing, 14 from Europe and 2 from North America (2). People are interested in the history of the winter Olympics but they are also interested in the many new sports.
Finally, many people are entertained by the new sports. Snowboarding half pipe is very popular. For instance, people like the snowboard half pipe because many people are now interested in snowboarding and the trick contests are fun to watch (3). In modern day, the teams travel to other countries to train. The United States Olympic team practices in Chula Vista which lies in Canada (3). Next, many people like the sport because of one of the best snowboarders for the United States Shaun White. He is young, fun, and entertaining to watch. He is predicted to win this coming year because he has the most gold medals for snowboarding half pipe in the world for both the winter Olympics and the winter X games (4). People watch the Olympics because there are entertaining people to watch compete like Shaun White and many new sports.
In conclusion, there are many reasons to like the winter Olympics. Lots of people like the Olympics first because of the exciting history of the Olympics and secondly because of the energetic people who compete in the Olympics. Both the history and entertaining people in the winter Olympics makes more and more people like the Winter Olympics.
